Gifted and Talented Endorsement and High Ability License Programs

The School of Education at Indiana University in Bloomington offers a 15 hour gifted and talented endorsement program and a new 12 hour High Ability License Program starting summer 2012. Faculty are Dr. Janice Bizzari, Adjunct Assistant Professor and Principal at University Elementary School and Dr. Enid Zimmerman, Professor Emerita of Art Education and Gifted and Talented Education Programs at IU. Courses meet one week each at the University Elementary School and a final project is due through consultation with the instructor after the class ends.

W553 Methods and Materials for the Gifted and Talented or Z531 Advanced Methods and Materials for Artistically Talented Students
Students concentrate on teaching strategies that benefit gifted and talented learners. Opportunities are provided to select, develop, and evaluate educational materials for art and academic programs.

W595 Practicum: Gifted and Talented or Z701 Art Education Practicum with Artistically Talented Students
In this course, emphasis is on learning about and discussing current issues related to the education of students who have high abilities in academic and/or arts areas. Focus is on developing leadership abilities through receiving grants, creating workshops and websites, and other means for advocating about educating gifted and talented students.
